The spring system is made up of hundreds of individual springs that are bound together to each other to provide a stable sleep surface. The border is then surrounded but a solid thicker support wire that keeps the mattress in shape. The border wire also stops edge sinking when you sit on the edge of the bed to put on shoes etc.
